Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we are asked most often.

Is the food really vegan?

A large part of Ethiopian cuisine is naturally vegan – especially during the fasting periods. At Lalibela we offer many vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as gluten-free injera.

What is injera?

Injera is an airy, slightly sour sourdough flatbread made from teff flour. It serves as plate and cutlery in one – dishes are served on top of it and eaten by hand.

Is injera gluten-free?

Teff is naturally gluten-free. We offer gluten-free injera – simply let us know when ordering so that we can serve you the right version.

Can I book for a group?

Yes, gladly. Use our reservation form and state the number of guests. For large groups and celebrations we arrange the tables individually – especially in Kreuzberg with its 200 m².

Do you host events and offer catering?

Yes. We host private celebrations, company events and weddings – with large combination platters and vegan options. Simply send us an enquiry via the contact form.

Where can I find Lalibela in Berlin?

You will find us at two locations: Kreuzberg (Ohlauer Str. 27, near Görlitzer Park) and Neukölln (Kienitzer Str. 113). All addresses and directions are on our locations page.

When does the coffee ceremony take place?

The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony takes place every evening around 6 pm: freshly roasted beans, ground and served in three rounds.
